WHAT IS SUISEKI?

SUI means "water"
SEKI means "stone"

Ever since the Stone Age, man has been fascinated by stones. It is likely that as you have found this site you will already have an interest in geology, gardens, trees and Bonsai. Suiseki is an extension of all of this being the Japanese tradition of stone collecting and appreciation.

The contemplation of stone as a symbol of nature releases the mind from pressures of complex life and allows a person to retain a sense of values. The importance of life in its simplest form is reflected through the beauty and strength of character of the stone.

Stones tend to be grouped into scenic landscape stones (eg mountains with waterfalls), object stones (eg mother and baby or an animal) and pattern stones eg chrysanthemum.

NORTHERN SUISEKI GROUP

The northern Suiseki group was formed in 2011 with the aim of bringing together a group of like-minded people who wish to take Suiseki beyond its use as accents for bonsai to stand alone as an art form in its own right.

We wish to engage with people interested in Suiseki to join our small informal group to learn more about this fascinating subject and to expand awareness in the UK.

FOR MORE INFORMATION ON JOINING THE NORTHERN SUISEKI GROUP GET IN TOUCH, WE'D BE HAPPY TO SPEAK WITH YOU.
